Google Drive has introduced a new feature that enables users to annotate and draw on PDF files on their Android devices. The new annotation tools are designed to provide users with an easy and quick way to make edits on the go, such as when traveling to a meeting or commuting. The new pen-shaped floating action button will be visible in the bottom-right corner of the screen when opening a PDF file in Google Drive for Android after updating. When tapped, it will open up a new toolbar of options to draw and annotate with.

The pen tool is available in red, black, blue, and green with multiple thicknesses that can be adjusted by dragging a slider with your finger or stylus. There is also a highlighter available in yellow, green, blue, or purple. As well as an eraser that can remove anything you may have made, alongside undo and redo capabilities. Finally, there is an option to hide all edits entirely.
Users can directly save their annotations to the file if it is a PDF. Or create a new PDF copy of the file with the annotations saved to it. If they prefer a cleaner view, the toolbar can also fit the side of the screen by tapping and holding.
The new function is rolling out now, with users downloading the latest version of Google Drive being the first to enjoy it. However, users will need to have Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above installed on their devices to use this feature. The update is one of several recent upgrades to Google Drive as the company strives to ensure its service remains useful and intuitive for users everywhere.
Google recently added a new toolbar for multi-selecting files, which the company hopes will make things easier to accomplish. It also introduced new “search chips,” which will find files quickly by filtering for criteria such as file type. When a document was last modified, and who they have been shared with. With these updates, Google is making it easier for users to work on-the-go and stay organized. Whether they are commuting to work or preparing for a meeting.
