Indonesia invites Tesla to build battery factory in its 30,000-hectare industrial zone

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment said that the battery factory that Tesla intends to build in Indonesia may be built in one of the country’s most important comprehensive industrial areas. According to reports, a large industrial area in Indonesia’s North Kalimantan (Kaltara) province will cover an area of 30,000 hectares. The minister pointed out that the area can generate 10,000 megawatts of hydroelectric power. It can also generate 10,000 megawatts of solar panel power. Furthermore, it can generate 29,000 megawatts of electricity from natural gas.

At 30,000 hectares (115.8 square miles), the Kaltara complex is one of the largest industrial developments in the world. The construction of the industrial park began in December 2021. The minister said that this is very consistent with Musk’s vision of developing green batteries and automotive products. He believes that the Indonesian industrial park can become Elon Musk’s first choice.

In addition, the minister claims that a team from Tesla had visited Indonesia. The team was also invited to the nickel industry hub in Morowali.

Tesla Berlin plant to start two-shift production

Tesla Berlin plant introduced a second working shift last Friday. This will help the company to ramp up production faster to meet the growing demand for its electric vehicles as quickly as possible.

The Berlin Gigafactory opened on March 22 and is Tesla’s first large factory in Europe. According to reports, Tesla will introduce a second working shift at the Berlin Gigafactory from May 20. This means that it will greatly contribute to the increase in production. The plant’s output growth rate was lower than expected due to the “disruption of parts supply” caused by the epidemic. However, the situation is starting to improve. Chinese companies have started to resume work, and soon the parts used to manufacture the Model Y in Germany will start arriving in full.

The increase in production at the Berlin plant is crucial as Tesla was unable to produce cars at its Shanghai plant for three weeks in the second quarter. Tesla’s two new factories, the Berlin Gigafactory and the Austin, Texas, plant are open. Also, deliveries this quarter should be flat with the first quarter, or about 310,000 vehicles.

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has previously said that although production slowed in the second quarter, the company’s production will increase significantly in the third and fourth quarters. With all four of Tesla’s factories open, Tesla’s car sales this year are worth looking forward to.
